Weekly Hotel Performance Update – July 21-27, 2024

August 1, 2024 By SDTA Staff Leave a Comment

  • Comic-Con brought with it an enormous surge in occupancy late last week and over the weekend, living up to the hype.
  • County properties sold 398,659 room nights last week, right on top of the number sold during the same week last year.
  • Occupancy averaged 88.2%, ranking San Diego 4th among the top 25 and 2nd in the western comp set behind a resurgent Seattle (91.6%). However, the 88.2% weekly average was dragged lower by slower activity toward the beginning of the week and masks the strength seen in the latter half of the week as Comic-Con dominated the city.
    • The top 3 markets last week were Seattle, Boston (89.8%), and New York (88.7%).
    • Across the city, Pt. Loma – Airport properties led in occupancy at 92.5% followed by Mission Bay (91.6%) and UTC close behind (91.5%).
    • Weekend performance was absolutely stellar in every region within the county, starting on Wednesday night. Every region was more than 90% occupied on Wednesday and at least 95% occupied on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. At 99.5%, the I-15 Corridor was within 10 rooms of being completely sold out.
  • ADR rose to a record-high $295, surpassing the previous record of $286 set last July during Comic-Con week. ADR topped $400 Downtown Thursday through Saturday while rates hovered just north of $500 per night in La Jolla on Friday and Saturday. RevPAR was a solid $260, ranking San Diego 2nd in the top 25 just behind Oahu ($269) and 1st in the western comp set, far ahead of 2nd-place Seattle where RevPAR averaged $217.
  • Group demand at upscale+ properties totaled 65,785 last week, blowing past the 56,545 booked during Comic-Con week last year. Group occupancy 36.0% at and ADR of $345.14.
