San Diego Makes “Best of” Vacation Lists
By Lori Weisberg
It’s probably no surprise to San Diegans that the city is a popular tourist destination, but now U.S. News & World Report is trumpeting San Diego‘s appeal in its latest best vacation rankings.
In the magazine’s list of the 21 most popular vacation spots in the U.S., San Diego ranks No. 3, right behind San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
In all, 49 U.S. and 35 European destinations were analyzed and ultimately winnowed down on the basis of recommendations from travel writers and users of the U.S. News Travel website.
The magazine describes San Diego as the “most well-rounded destination” on the list because of the diversity of its attractions, from the beaches, zoo and theme parks to dining, sports and nightlife venues.
While it’s always gratifying to make such “best of” lists, the rankings don’t necessarily translate into an instant boost in tourism dollars, noted Joe Terzi, head of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau.
