The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina celebrated the opening of their new convention space with a ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling on June 28, 2016. The event drew industry leaders, hospitality partners, and VIP guests. Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Port Commissioner Marshal Merrifield, and Marriott Marquis GM Tuni Kyi spoke to invited guests about the value of the space in attracting new convention business, as well as the importance of the Marina Walk – connecting visitors to San Diego Bay.
The two-level structure features both indoor and outdoor spaces including the Marriott Grand Ballroom and Pacific San Diego Ballroom. Both rooms can accommodate up to 3,700 guests within 36,000 sq. ft of contiguous space each. With floating air walls, each space can be split into 12 individual rooms. The pre-function space features a dramatic floor to ceiling window with a panoramic view of the San Diego skyline. Aside from the dramatic view, the centerpiece of this space is a one-of-a-kind Swarovski-crystal ceiling installation.
There is also the new Marina Grand Terrace, a 26,000 sq. ft. outdoor patio overlooking San Diego Bay. Up to 3,000 guests will be able to relax and unwind in the year-round sunny San Diego climate.
With this completion, the hotel will encompass 135,000 square feet of meeting space, 60,000 square feet of foyer space and over 85,000 square feet of outdoor space, totaling over 280,000 square feet.
