- Total visitor volume for October was roughly 1.21 million, a fall of 54% from last October, but only a 3.6% decline from September 2020.
- Hotel/motel visitors totaled 490,000, a 7.9% decline from September, while household guests totaled 211,000, a 5.8% decline from previous month. Overall, overnight visitors totaled 759,000, a decline of 42.9% from last year and down 6.7% from month prior.
- Day visitation totaled 446,000 with visitors from Southern California making up the majority at 339,000 in October – an increase of 2.7% from September.
- Visitor spending amounted to $421 million with a regional economic impact of $695 million. This amount is a 11.9% slide from September’s spending, and is the lowest level of spending during the recovery since June.
- SAN arrivals climbed to their highest level thus far in the recovery to a total of 351,962 deplanements with the best YOY comparison of -67.3%, up from the dismal -96.3% decline seen in April.
- San Diego attractions that were operating in October had their best month during the recovery with help from Kids Free October, totaling 605,192 guests spread among the San Diego Zoo, the Safari Park, SeaWorld, the Midway Museum (and Cabrillo National Monument). This number of guests is by far the highest amount during the COVID crisis; over 207,000 more than the next best month of August which came to just under 400,000 total guests.
