Cross Border Xpress continues accelerated growth

October 3, 2018 By Niki McDonald Leave a Comment

2018 is turning out to be a great year for the Cross Border Xpress, or CBX as it is known, the 390-foot bridge that spans the border wall connecting the Tijuana international airport to San Diego.  By August 2018, the bridge has served 100,000 more northbound travelers than it did by this time last year, a fourteen percent increase in traffic.  Since opening in December 2015, the bridge has seen impressive growth in users, far exceeding expectations.  Operators of the bridge are already planning expansions to accommodate the heavier traffic.

Users of the bridge tout the speed and efficiency in crossing the border from the Tijuana airport, noting that it would normally take three to four hours to cross the border into San Diego by car.  But for a $30 round-trip ticket, CBX gets most airport travelers through in just fifteen minutes.  CBX also takes care of all required international customs checks and offers long-term parking and affordable shuttles to various destinations around San Diego and Los Angeles.

“We see it as a growing opportunity to bring more international visitors to San Diego,” said Joe Terzi, president and CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority. “It’s a great addition to our community.”
