The proposed financing plan to expand the San Diego Convention Center was upheld by the San Diego Superior Court last month. The court found that under both state and local laws, a hotelier-approved room tax is a legally acceptable means for financing the $520 million project. The City of San Diego had filed a validation suit last year with the court to ensure the funding mechanism was legal before bonds were issued. The project continues to move forward, and in June 2013, a hearing before the California Coastal Commission regarding the environmental impact of the expansion is scheduled to be heard.
