In an address from the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando on Thursday, January 19, President Obama praised the value of travel and tourism as a vital force behind the U.S. economy, and an engine for job creation. In 2010, the U.S. welcomed nearly 60 million international visitors, who helped boost the economy to the tune of $134 billion. The president expressed his desire to build on the momentum of this trend, and announced a directive for his administration to develop a new national tourism strategy focused on creating jobs.
