San Diego recently ranked third in the nation for searches on the online travel site, Expedia, behind only to Las Vegas and New York. In addition to Expedia, our partnerships with other Online Travel Agencies (OTA) Orbitz and Travelocity accounted for the sale of 1.1 million hotel room nights in San Diego County during 2010, approximately 8% of the total 14 million room nights sold locally.
This is a direct result of our strategy to boost our online promotions efforts, and shift the focus away from print venues towards interactive marketing, which will also begin including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The ConVis team has been diligently working with our agency and OTA partners to develop a marketing mix that balances our advertising efforts between TV and Web, and we are thrilled with the impact it’s made on the destination so far.
