We are thrilled to introduce the Mental Bar, a member of the 2024 Tourism Accelerator Cohort.
What is the Mental Bar?
The Mental Bar is more than just a coffee and tea shop; it’s a sanctuary for community, connection and wellness located in San Diego’s Black Arts & Culture District in Encanto Village. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Tommy and Daneyel Walker in 2017, The Mental Bar was born from a vision to create a space that not only serves high-quality beverages but also fosters unity and creativity. Drawing from their backgrounds in yoga, meditation, and wellness, the Walkers crafted a unique environment where patrons can come together, clear their minds, and connect over a great cup of coffee or tea. This veteran-owned, Black-owned, woman-owned business is changing the dynamic of what a coffee shop can be by serving as a hub for healthy rituals and cultural exchange.

The Mental Bar specializes in offering premium coffee, tea, and wholesome food, all made with gratitude and love to promote optimal wellness. With a strong focus on therapeutic and restorative refreshments, The Mental Bar distinguishes itself through its commitment to serving the community’s needs. Beyond just food and drink, it serves as a place where people can gather to socialize, share ideas, and connect with family and friends. How Can You Work with the Mental Bar?
The Mental Bar is eager to collaborate with other members of the San Diego Tourism Accelerator Program (SDTA) to enhance the local tourism experience. By partnering with local tour operators, hotels, and attractions, The Mental Bar can create special packages or promotions that encourage tourists to visit and enjoy its unique offerings. The café is also open to hosting events and workshops in collaboration with other SDTA members, providing tourists with memorable experiences that blend wellness, culture, and community. Through these partnerships, The Mental Bar hopes to expand its reach, foster innovation, and contribute to the broader tourism landscape in San Diego. By connecting with fellow SDTA members, The Mental Bar aims to leverage cross-promotion opportunities, joint marketing campaigns, and product collaborations, ultimately enriching the cultural fabric of San Diego and offering visitors a truly special place to relax and rejuvenate.
