Please join us in welcoming Rick Outcalt to the newly created position of Senior Vice President of Citywide Sales at ConVis. Rick most recently served as Director of Sales & Marketing for the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina and will now direct the Bureau’s citywide sales effort. He collectively brings 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including more than 20 years in a variety of sales and convention management roles for several Marriott International, Inc. properties.
In addition to his extensive convention sales and marketing background, he also brings a high level of leadership to the Citywide Sales Team. As we continue to evolve the sales and marketing efforts of the San Diego Convention Center, it is crucial to recruit top leadership that can position San Diego as a national frontrunner for convention hosting. Under Rick’s leadership, we will continue to grow as a world-class convention destination.
In his new role, he will oversee and set the strategic direction for the Bureau’s citywide convention sales efforts, including managing a team of eight national sales directors in the Washington DC, Chicago and San Diego offices. Caring for current customers while growing the existing customer base will be central for the Citywide Sales team as the San Diego Convention Center finalizes plans for a second expansion. The expected addition of more than 400,000 square feet to the existing Convention Center space will increase San Diego’s ability to attract large conventions and remain one of the top 10 most desirable convention destinations.
