Six geocaches have been hidden along the backcountry of San Diego’s East County as part of a new marketing program, initiated by ConVis Visitor Services, for Historic Highway 80. Geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game where players try to locate hidden containers (called “geocaches”) using GPS-enabled devices, then share their experiences online. This fun, free game played by adults and kids of all ages, all over the world, enables us to create awareness about the old road, its businesses and points of interest for visitors and locals to enjoy. Eventually, a total of 80 caches will be hidden along Historic Highway 80 from downtown San Diego to the Arizona border. To find the caches, visit www.geocaching.com and search by name for “80on80”.
