The outside is in. The good news is that there’s no better place to hold outdoor events and meetings than in San Diego. Not only does the region have near-perfect weather all year round, but it is also home to a variety of eye-catching and unique venues that overlook the beaches, the bays and beyond. So now is the perfect time and place to reimagine your meetings and their settings by taking them outside and providing a new twist on the indoor option alongside the always-popular outdoor receptions and dining events.
While the iconic property is known for its Victorian architecture, it is its beachside location that really sets it apart when it comes to outdoor events by allowing your attendees to soak up the sun and seaside breezes in style. Del Beach, the hotel’s most requested outdoor space, is one of the few beaches in California where guests enjoy cocktails and gourmet delights right on the sand. The Del also has the technical capability to host speaking events with state-of-the-art AV equipment, including headphones that attendees can wear. Other popular spots include Windsor Lawn with its lush landscaping; the Garden Patio, which highlights the property’s Queen Anne architecture; Vista Terrace, featuring the Del’s signature turret as its backdrop; and Paseo Lawn, a more intimate garden venue that is still just steps from the sparkling sands.
The Marriott Marquis & Marina is a mainstay for meetings and events in Downtown, featuring plenty of outdoor spaces that offer views of the bay and San Diego’s sparkling center city. Your guests can enjoy spectacular sunsets from its Coronado Terrace or take in a more tropical setting at the multifunctional urban oasis pool area, which is smack dab in the middle of the resort property. Adjacent to the 447 Slip Marquis Marina is the Marina Terrace, one of the property’s most sought-after outdoor locations that can even host food trucks. The Marriott also can put on events at nearby premier outdoor locations that offer next-level experiences including the USS Midway and the Broadway Pier.
The newly renovated Kona Kai Resort & Spa offers up modern luxury with outdoor venues to die for, including its expansive private beach—one of the rare beachside locations that permit alcohol consumption. For a more intimate feel, the Marina View Lawn offers a backdrop of docked boats while the Cabo Garden Courtyard in the center of the property is the perfect place for a banquet or receptions. Directly across the street from the resort is Skyline Park, featuring views of Downtown San Diego and the bay.
Tucked away on a more secluded slice of Mission Bay, Paradise Point Resort & Spa is a 44-acre island retreat that features outdoor venues graced by tropical gardens alongside meandering lagoons. Paradise Terrace overlooks the shimmering bay while Island Point Palm provides the perfect setting with tall palms situated near the sandy shoreline. Nestled alongside a network of soothing lagoons, the Pine Hill venue with its lush gardens transports guests to a seemingly faraway world.
Luxury is the name of the game at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, offering up a variety of gracious and elegant outdoor spots. The Aria Lawn offers a sweeping expanse of the resort’s golf course and canyon preserve while the Reflection Courtyard near its reflection pool provides the perfect outdoor setting for breakfast, lunch or cocktail reception. Other more intimate spots include the Pool Courtyard, the Terrace Lounge and the Clubhouse Grill Terrace.
Offering a breathtaking setting for any type of intimate event, the Rancho Bernardo Inn is home to 265 acres of beautiful gardens, a courtyard, three pools and an 18-hole golf course, offering any number of outdoor venues and plenty of opportunities to explore and connect with nature. As a low-rise resort, Rancho Bernardo’s rooms are spaced out in separate wings instead of being concentrated in towers, and most are accessible through open-air entries, making it easy to stay socially distanced and outside.

Do the outdoor options come with furniture groupings/options, other than the traditional banquet chairs/rounds, etc? Otherwise, it would be a costly commitment to hold any sessions outside.
