Things are heating up here in San Diego. Gov. Gavin Newsom recently released guidance that will allow San Diego to reopen hotel leisure travel as soon as this Friday, June 12. The San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) is working with our County elected officials to ensure a safe and healthy reopening of our hotels. Other sectors that were cleared to reopen include:
- Bars and wineries
- Museums, zoos and aquariums, including Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo
- Outdoor activities including campgrounds, fishing and charter boats
- Family entertainment venues such as arcades, miniature golf and bowling alleys
In addition, San Diego’s beaches recently reopened as have our restaurants.
You can find specific industry-by-industry guidance available on the state’s website.
While the reopening of our hotels for leisure business is an important step forward for our destination, there is still plenty more work to be done to ensure meetings and conventions can safely open back up as well. The SDTA continues to work with our local elected officials and industry partners to responsibly reopen all facets of our local tourism economy.
We can’t wait to welcome you and your attendees back to sunny San Diego. In the meantime, we are here to help as we plan for a brighter future.
And don’t worry, we will continue to keep San Diego warm for you.

What about meetings and events? How many people can be present? When can we start promoting events in San Diego again?
